Embracing New Technologies

For over three decades, Mackenzie has been a transformative figure in the art world, leaving an indelible mark on the publishing industry. From his humble beginnings in Middlesbrough, Mackenzie’s journey is a testament to his unique vision and passion for art.

The Early Years | Breaking New Ground

When Mackenzie first entered the industry 35 years ago, the art publishing world was a vastly different landscape. Traditional methods dominated, with limited opportunities for artists to reach a broad audience. Mackenzie with his distinctive style and emotive storytelling, quickly challenged these conventions. His art, characterised by its raw emotional power and universal themes, resonated deeply with people, creating an immediate demand for his work.

Accessible Art Through Limited Editions

One of Mackenzie’s most significant contributions to publishing has been his approach to limited edition prints. Recognising that original artworks were often financially inaccessible for many art lovers, he pioneered the production of high-quality, limited edition prints. This strategy made art ownership accessible, allowing a wider audience to own and appreciate his work.

Digital Printing

Early in his career, Mackenzie recognised the potential of digital printing. By collaborating closely with master printers, he has been able to push the boundaries of what can be achieved digitally. While an original piece might lack a specific tone of red, working with skilled printers has allowed him to enhance specific elements.

His recent release, ‘Blossom,’ is a perfect example of Mackenzie’s experimentation with various printing methods. The piece incorporates multiple elements such as gold leaf, embossing, and varnishing, adding a three-dimensional quality to the print. This approach creates a multi-sensory experience for the viewer, allowing them to feel the artwork’s texture and engage with it on a deeper level.
